This paper outlines the misrepresentation of the performance of Australian manufactured windows within the Window Energy Rating Scheme (WERS) that results in Australians paying up to 250% more for windows that don’t perform any better than the cheapest aluminium frame.

With the move to NatHERS 7 Star minimum performance of homes these very expensive but actually very poorly performing windows are almost necessary for any new construction in Canberra to meet this requirement.

Australians are paying twice, upfront with the additional capital cost and then for the life of the home with the unnecessary heating and cooling cost; not to mention the health and productivity costs to society with poorly performing homes.

This is a part of the larger problem of industry directing regulation in Australia and contributes significantly to the cost of housing crisis in Australia and the larger cost to the health and well-being of Australians who are being deceived.
